China removes tariffs on wood products from LDCs

According to the office of Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council, China had decided to remove tariffs on 4,762 commodities imported from 33 of the world’s Least Developed Countries (LDCs). Commodities with zero tariffs include wood products. The zero tariff treatment came into effect on 1 July 2010.

The countries involved are 26 African countries and 7 other countries, including Ethiopia, Benin, Burundi, Equatorial Guinea, Maldives, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Native village's forest company goes global

An isolated First Nations region on the northern British Columbia coast is emerging as a new economic powerhouse, leading the rebirth of the forest industry in that part of the province.

There are no roads to the village of Lax Kw'alaams, and most British Columbians would be hard-pressed to find it on a map.

Russian sawmill to increase Pellets production

Start-up of pellet production at Sawmill 25 (Arkhangelsk region) has become the final stage of the sawmill’s modernization programme aimed at the whole technological process upgrading that has been realized since 2004. The plant on pellet production was constructed in spring 2008, which allowed providing the fully closed production cycle, including utilization of all the wastes.
