Proposed Amendment of the Sulphur Directive Would Weaken the Competitiveness of the Finnish forest industry

Finland, Jul 20, 2011 - The EU Commission has published its proposed amendment to the Sulphur Directive, which would lead to the maximum sulphur content of maritime fuels being lowered to 0.1% on the Baltic Sea by the beginning of 2015.

Rising shipping costs for Kiwi exporters

Ongoing unrest in the Middle East has caused a surging oil price which is now being passed on to exporters in the form of rising shipping costs. The halting of exports from Queensland following the floods, saw shipping costs lower in January and through into February as supply outgrew demand. However, export production has resumed in Queensland and demand from New Zealand exporters has shown little sign of abating.

Exports of wood chips from Australia have declined 28% in 2009

Seattle, USA. October, 2009. Australia, the world largest exporter of wood chips reduced shipments by 28% during the first half of 2009. The biggest decline was that of softwood and hardwood chips to Japan, which were down 31% and 36%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2008.

MGT Power have announced plans for second biomass power plant

MGT Power Ltd has announced plans to develop a second major biomass power generation project at the Port of Tyne in the North Tyneside.   The proposed 295MW Tyne Renewable Energy Plant (Tyne REP) will be located on industrial land in the Port of Tyne, North Shields and is 10 kms east of Newcastle City Centre. The site is on the north bank of the River Tyne. The scheme will generate carbon neutral electricity for around 600,000 homes in the North East of England.

Indonesian Government: Production forests will reach 10m hectares by 2014

The government is optimistic its production forests (HTI) will span over 5 million hectares by the year-end, and over 10 million hectares by 2014 as targeted, because the forestry industry can now resort to financing supported by government, an official says.
