ANDRITZ in advanced negotiations with Montes del Plata for supply of major pulp mill equipment

Graz, Austria, Feb 14, 2011 - International technology Group ANDRITZ and Montes del Plata, a joint venture company of Stora Enso and Arauco, are in advanced negotiations towards concluding a contract for supply of production technologies and equipment for the new pulp mill of Montes del Plata in Punta Pereira, Uruguay (capacity: 1.3 million t/a eucalyptus market pulp). It was agreed not disclose the order value; however typical order values of comparable reference projects are between 750-800 million Euros.

Koryazhma Forestry Branch of Ilim Group Receives New Equipment

St. Petersburg, Russia, Feb 14, 2011 - In 2010, Ilim Group invested USD 19 million to purchase advanced harvesting and auxiliary equipment for the Company’s Forestry Branch in Koryazhma. The amount of investments is more than 10 times greater than in 2009.

SCA Östrand granted new environmental conditions

Sundsvall, Sweden, Feb 17, 2011 - The Environmental Court has granted SCA Östrand new conditions under the Environmental Code for the mill’s activities. This will allow the mill to ultimately increase production up to 660,000 tonnes of pulp.

Portucel Soporcel group sales account for 3% of total Portuguese exports and 43% of European paper exports

Setubal, Portugal, Feb 17, 2011 - Portucel Soporcel group’s sales in 2010 accounted for 3% of exports of Portuguese goods. The total value of exports stood at approximately 1.2 billion euros, representing growth of 25% over the previous year.

The Portucel Soporcel group is one of Portugal’s top exporters, and possibly the exporter generating the highest national value added, given that its products are obtained essentially from Portuguese raw materials and resources.

M-real has signed UN Global Compact's CEO Water Mandate

Forest industry in 2010: Production up 12% in Finland

Finland, Feb 11, 2011 - The forest industry of Finland recorded annual production increase of some 12% in 2010, but production volume did not yet rise to the level achieved in 2008.

Pulp and paper industry production was up about 11% and the wood products industry’s production increased by some 14%. The continuation of this positive development after industry companies have finished implementing structural changes will depend on whether or not domestic costs are kept in check.
