Brazzaville - The President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, defended on Friday the establishment of partnerships between the sustainable forest management and the development of the countries located in the three tropical forest basins of the world.

The Congolese statesman said so while addressing the opening ceremony of the Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the member countries of the Amazon, Congo and South-East Asia Tropical Forest Basins.

The President of the Republic of Congo said that the demands of the international community with the member countries of the tropical basins on sustainable management matters should be supported financially and materially in the light of the Bali plan in Indonesia.

According to Sassou Nguesso, it is urgent for the member countries to meet consensus so as to better tackle and overcome the current challenges.

The Congolese statesman said that his government is committed to the sustainable management and conservation of forests, and thus enable the reduction of deforestation, creation of a national network and a protected cross border zones totalling 11.2 %  of the national territory.
