This study sees bamboo as a bridge between climate change mitigation and poverty alleviation. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) promoted issues of climate change mitigation and adaptation. The Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) presented compelling evidence and sobering projections for the future climate change and its likely impacts. The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol (KP) has explicit dual goals of assisting developing countries in achieving sustainable development, and industrialized countries in meeting their quantified emission limitations. It has spawned over 1880 registered projects by November.2009. These projects will reduce emissions by approximately three Gigatonnes (Gt) of CO2 by 2012. The CDM has already produced more than three hundred million Certified Emission Reductions (CERs).
